Just weeks after the resignation of their technology leader, officials in Delaware state government have begun the search for his successor.

In a job posting on LinkedIn, the state indicated the person chosen for the cabinet-level position will be the state’s “principal technology advisor” to Gov. Matt Meyer and the cabinet, and be charged with ensuring tech investments “advance policy goals, improve service delivery, protect sensitive data, and maximize value for taxpayers.”

Jordan Schulties, chief of administration for the Department of Technology and Information (DTI), is serving as interim state CIO, following the departure in mid-January of Greg Lane, who had held the CIO position for more than two years.

Lane had been with the state since 2017, when he joined as its chief technology officer; he became CIO in July 2023.

The state’s next CIO will lead a department of more than 350 people, with a yearly operating budget of more than $100 million. The Delaware CIO oversees the chief information, technology, security, operations, partner services and administration office divisions.

Delaware’s state CIO also heads up DTI and, per the job posting, sets the “vision, strategy, and execution” for statewide IT, cybersecurity, data and digital services endeavors.
