Washington has named Gretchen Peri as its new chief technology officer, bringing her more than 25 years of gov tech experience to deepen the state bench.

Peri, who began her service at Washington Technology Solutions (WaTech) on Sept. 2, will replace Nick Stowe, who has served as WaTech CTO since March 2023. Stowe will remain in place at the agency until the end of the year, according to a WaTech news release.

“Nick’s steady leadership has been invaluable to WaTech and the state, and I want to thank him for his contributions,” state CIO and WaTech Director Bill Kehoe said in a statement. “We are excited to welcome Gretchen to the team and look forward to her leadership as we continue our digital transformation journey.”

Peri previously served as a managing director at Slalom America, where she held various roles for more than a dozen years — most notably working with the firm’s public-sector practice. She was recognized as one of Consulting Magazine’s 2023 Women Leaders in Technology, for excellence in innovation.

At Slalom, Peri initiated the firm’s public-sector business and led its Global Public and Social Impact practice. Her work has centered on modernizing technology and developing scalable solutions.

She is also a member of the King County Strategic Advisory Council, and of the 30x30 Initiative Advisory Board, which assists public institutions in improving equity, safety and strategic direction, according to the state.
